There are a lot of reasons you might want to use a PS4 controller on your new PS5. It's an inexpensive way to add additional controllers to your console, and it's handy for playing PS4 games on the backwards-compatible PS5. In addition, you'll definitely need a DualShock 4 controller to play PS VR games. The good news is that your legacy controller does, in fact, work on a PS5 — although there's a key limitation. The most important thing to note before using your PS4 controller with a PS5 is that even after connecting it, you can only use a the controller to play PS4 games and navigate menus. You can't play any native PS5-only titles with a DualShock 4, just the backwards-compatible PS4 games. To connect your DualShock 4 to the PS5: 1. Connect your DualShock 4 controller to one of the USB ports on your PS5 using a microUSB cable. 2. Press and hold the PlayStation button on your PS4 controller for about five seconds until it turns on and the status light flashes. 3. The PS5 should ask you to choose which player will use the controller. Make your choice. Your PS4 controller is now paired with the PS5. You can unplug the cable, and you don't have to worry about pairing it again in the future. If you later want to unpair the PS4 controller, open the Settings menu and select Accessories, then click General and Bluetooth Accessories. Select your DualShock 4 on the page that appears, then click Delete.
