Fortnite's Season 5 is just around the corner. There appears to be plenty of Season 4 left, to be sure: there's a giant crack in the sky, interdimensional rifts on the ground and a whole lot of question marks about what this game has in store for the next 10 days. But even as we've got our eyes on those things, the community and developers are getting ready for Season 5, which means endless speculation on the theme and, when possible, a little bit of datamining. The datamining scene has gotten much more sophisticated since Season 4 began, and now every single update that Epic puts out is pulled apart by multiple entities until it gives up its every secret. Epic appears to have been countering this by misnaming things or avoiding putting them in, but there's only so much that you can do. And while this should all be taken with a grain of salt, it appears that we have our first look at some of the Season 5 Battle Pass Loot.
Dataminer @FNBRLeaks found some contrails hanging out in the Fortnite files, also known as the little streaky bits that come off your character's hands as they skydive. This is significant for two reasons. The first is that these contrails weren't included in the regular cosmetic dump that we see with every other major patch. The second is that contrails have so far been battle pass exclusive and not available in the standard item shop. This would suggest that the item names are referring to upcoming Battle Pass loot. Here's what the files are called:
- Stars & Stripes
- TP
- Glitchin'
- Vines
- Golden Starfish
- Ice
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any earthly way of reading anything about the theme from these files, though nothing in here would appear to contradict a time travelling theme. And there are some fun things in here: Toilet Paper and Vines are both a little more solid than what we've seen from contrails so far, though something like that would be a pretty natural evolution of the concept. And I like the idea of the player glitching their way down to the map--it might look good with some of the more cyberpunk skins. The only question mark here is Stars and Stripes, which would seem to be a 4th of July tie-in. That raises a red flag because the 4th comes before Season 5 begins, but the contrail would still be a perfectly fine addition to the pass after the fact, particularly with the patriotic skins that are on their way.
@FNBRleaks has been reliable in the past, but again we take all these things with a grain of salt: they might also be genuine leaks that will nonetheless change by the time the pass hits. Keep an eye here as the week goes on. Epic will undoubtedly want to keep all this locked up as tight as possible, but sometimes things slip through the cracks.
