what does the exclamation mark mean in fortnite
Fortnite Chapter 2's new Top Secret Season is a spy-themed update, featuring new lairs guarded by Henchmen and filled with loot.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 has arrived, bringing an espionage-themed slew of additions to Epic's genre-defining Battle Royale. As the second season since Fortnite reinvented itself through the 2.0 update, Top Secret has got a lot of work to do keeping up the stream of new content that has kept player numbers up since the game first released in Early Access.
As an espionage-themed update, Top Secret includes plenty of spy tropes for fans to enjoy, with secret bases, transforming phone boxes, ID scanners, and... Deadpool? Of course, no spy story would be complete without a few good henchmen, and Season 2 is no exception. Henchmen of the mysterious Shadow and Ghost organizations are scattered across the Battle Island, and here's how to find them.
Goons, Mooks, and Grunts
The Henchmen in Top Secret are AI-controlled enemies that guard several new Points of Interest added in the update. Specifically, they can be found at The Agency, The Shark, The Rig, The Grotto, and The Yacht. These spy-themed villain lairs are spread across the map and contain loot-filled vaults for players who can deal with their guards.
Identifying Henchmen is possible through their white suits or skull masks, depending on which of the two factions they belong to. While it's possible to avoid them with stealth, a yellow question mark appearing above their head indicates that they've become suspicious, and an exclamation mark indicates they are alerted. Stealth is a new mechanic in Fortnite, and a fitting addition for a season so sneaky it was advertised through cryptic teasers popping up all over the internet.
Clearing the Chaff
Once alerted, the Henchmen will attempt to kill the player that alerted them, while drawing other Henchmen into the fight. While not as deadly as enemy players, their weaponry is no joke, and players should make sure they're well equipped before exploring areas guarded by them. However, with a decent level of gear, and maybe some sticks of golden dynamite, they are fairly easy to mop up.
Two of Brutus' challenges involve fighting with Shadow and Ghost's Henchmen. The first is to deal 2000 damage to them, which is fairly easy to accomplish with the right weaponry. The second is to crouch within 20m of an unaware Henchman for at least 10 seconds, which can also be accomplished quite easily by using cover and staying quiet. This means that when the rumored Shout-Emotes arrive, definitely avoid them while trying to complete this challenge.
Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
