Fortnite has removed a Travis Scott music emote from its item shop following his Houston Astroworld festival that left eight people dead.
The “Out West” emote, which includes an audio snippet of Scott’s track “Out West,” was deleted from the game’s item shop. Emotes are dance moves or actions characters can perform in the online game.
The company also temporarily disabled the shop’s Daily section.
The Fortnite Status Twitter account explained: “It’s known that the ‘Daily’ section of the Item Shop has been disabled. This is intentional and the ‘Daily’ section will return with the next Item Shop refresh.”
The “Sicko Mode” rapper, 30, hosted a virtual Fortnite concert last April where he was digitally created into an avatar in the game. More than 12 million players tuned in at the time.
Scott’s Astroworld concert was held on Nov. 5 and tragedy struck when several people died and 300 were injured in a stampede at NRG Park.
He released a statement shortly following the chaos, writing on social media, “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.
“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need,” he continued. “Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. Love You All.”
The Texas native also issued full refunds to everyone who bought tickets to the concert and canceled his appearance at a festival in Las Vegas.
Manuel Souza, a victim who was injured during Friday’s deadly stampede, has filed a lawsuit against Scott and the event’s organizers over the “predictable and preventable tragedy.”
Scott will also be paying for the funerals for the eight people who were killed and will provide free mental health care for those affected by the disaster.
