Fortnite Is Becoming Ready Player One CBR

Fortnite is a massive game. When the Battle Royale mode launched as a free-to-play addition to the base game (which was still in early access at the time), it quickly became massively popular. It was largely responsible for the growth and popularity of the battle royale genre. Since its original release, Fortnite has only grown in popularity, and that has allowed the game to add in new modes, expand its battle pass, collaborate with celebrities, and add characters from other media as playable characters in the game. This is only the tip of the iceberg of the massive experience that Fortnite has become.

To switch gears for a moment, Ready Player One is a book that depicts a massive video game universe that players can immerse themselves in. In the book, players can create their own character or choose from any character from pop culture. Players can also go on quests, compete against other players and in races, build their own worlds, explore new worlds, watch movies, and so much more. For some gamers, that is the gaming future they dream of, and some companies believe this future exists in the metaverse. However, Fortnite is already extremely close to Ready Player One, and it's getting closer. Its latest Dragon Ball crossover proves this.

In the latest of many amazing crossovers, Fortnite has added characters from Dragon Ball into the game. Players can now use their V-Bucks to purchase Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, or Beerus along with a variety of items from the Dragon Ball universe. Along with the purchasable characters and items, players can use the Nimbus Cloud and iconic Kamehameha attack during any game. If they wanted to, players can put together a team in Fortnite of Naruto, Batman, Rick Sanchez, and Ariana Grande, and each of them can use a grappling hook to swing like Spider-Man and shoot Dragon Ball's iconic Kamehameha. If that wasn't enough, players can also race against Darth Vader, and in creative mode, the possibilities are equally endless.

As part of the Dragon Ball crossover event, players can also gather with friends to watch a piece of the new Dragon Ball Super movie. This isn't the first time Fortnite has done this either. In a previous event for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Ben Schwartz as a Stormtrooper and the film's director, J.J. Abrams, appeared in the game. In real-time, the two spoke to the in-game audience and showed a clip from the movie to everyone inside the game. Fortnite has also featured several concerts in-game from major musicians, including Marshmello. That doesn't even include the dozens of "story" events the game has had that have left permanent changes within the game world.

Fortnite is already leagues beyond what most companies envision for their "metaverse," and the game isn't far from the Ready Player One universe gamers long for. With concerts, movies, shows, events, creative modes, and player customization, Fortnite is creating a universe of options for players to explore. The game changes based on what players do, and it gives each player's actions a feeling of weight because of their input in game-changing events. There are so many outlandish things that players can do in Fortnite's seemingly lawless gameplay wasteland, and it isn't stopping any time soon.

There is so much potential for Fortnite to grow and become even more like a digital sandbox. In the next few years, players will likely see entirely new gameplay modes, genres, and items to use. There could even be new gameplay genres embedded into the game. Different sports could be added to the game for athletic players, or haunted houses could appear during Halloween, for instance. The possibilities are endless, and anything the developers can think of will likely be added to the game at some point. Players just have to get ready for the Easter egg hunt that requires specific knowledge of '80s pop culture.
