2021 brought with it one of the most critically-acclaimed DCEU films to date: James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. The project redeemed the previous installment in the franchise, and what was once an all but dead IP became full of life once again. Interest in the squad soared to its highest levels. Good for fans, then, that a massive video game based on the characters had already been announced.
The game, which is not based on the same characters or world as seen in the live-action film, is being developed by Rocksteady Studios, the same developers responsible for the beloved Arkham series of games.

Footage of the game showed its main characters to be Harley Quinn, Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot—all of whom had an insane goal: to kill the Justice League. Needless to say, the attention of the fans was grabbed.
New information about the game has been slim, despite there now being two-story trailers and one short gameplay teaser. However, it seems the reason for that has now been revealed.
Suicide Squad Video Game Delayed
Bloomberg reported that Warner Bros. delayed the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game, developer Rocksteady's next project, until 2023.

The title has been in the works for a few years now, but information and coverage on it has been slim. In a recent Twitter post, Warner Media Chief Executive Officer Jason Kilar listed several titles that would be hitting shelves this year, and the Rocksteady game was notably left out.
The developer's last release was Batman: Arkham Knight, which came out in June 2015.
Kill the Justice League... Eventually
Many fans are undoubtedly sad about this news because of how highly anticipated Rocksteady's new game is. However, as disappointing as it is to have a big game like this pushed further away, in the end, it's best for everyone. Now, players can theoretically get a much better game and not one trimmed down or riddled with issues because it was pushed out too soon.

While the Suicide Squad romp will eventually be here, fans can at least look forward to Gotham Knights hitting shelves this year. While not made by the same developers, those that made Arkham Origins are releasing another adventure in Batman's world, and it looks just as great with some new unique gameplay quirks.
In the game, players take over the roles of Red Hood, Batgirl, Nightwing, or Robin as they take on the crime in Gotham after the death of Bruce Wayne—while also dealing with the ominous and secretive threat of the Court of Owls.
Besides being this year, no further release date information has been released about Gotham Knights. But gamers will at least get one adventure in the world of DC in 2022 while waiting for Kill the Suicide Squad.
